Breaking: WMP Obtains Email Showing Controversial Anti-Weiser Comments From Norm Hughes

Ron Weiser

In an email obtained by WMP, Norm Hughes apparently calls the Christian Coalition dinner before last August's MIGOP Convention in Novi featuring Ron Weiser as the MC a "bust" that they couldn't sell tickets for and notes that Weiser, who is a "Jew" was leading a "Christian Coalition" dinner.

The source says this and many other emails have been forwarded to him over the years.

>>>To be fair to Hughes, his supporters may argue that he was just frustrated with Weiser in the middle of a heated UM regent race and noted what he seemed to be ironic-that Weiser, who is Jewish, was headlining the Christian Coalition dinner. Nothing inherently "anti-Semitic" within the email, they would say. That is for WMP readers to decide-check it out yourself below.

WMP first wrote about this story a few days ago:

"Norm Hughes, candidate for Michigan Republican Party Chair, tells WMP that reports he invoked anti-Jewish sentiment in an attack against Ron Weiser are "not true as stated."
WMP has received credible information that Hughes implied via email that having Weiser, who is Jewish, headline the Christian Coalition's dinner during the August 2014 state convention in Novi, was inappropriate because of Weiser's religion and that the event was a "bust" because of Weiser.

"Trash talk, Brandon. Not true as you stated it. I like Ron and appreciate all he has done, but it is true I supported Dr. Steele and former Regent Dan Horning. I felt they had the best chance to win and carry the conservative message."

Hughes faces Wayne St. instructor and nurse Kim Shmina, as well as RNC Committeewoman Ronna Romney-McDaniel next weekend in Lansing to determine who will replace Bobby Schostak as the next MI GOP party Chair. "

Hughes, left, with President Reagan

  1. Nice try, Brandon. Amazing..only 4 days before the state covention and you trot out a so called "credible source" who suddenly comes up with an e-mail that is supposed to put us all in shock and awe as you put you own particular spin on it.Well I happen to be a Jew. I know Norm Hughes and his impressive grassroots background. He's a man of integrity that gets things done, while other people only complain. By the way, he's as gracious a man as one could hope to work with and he's no anti-semite! You might want to ponder the term calumny. Apparently they didn't teach you about that in journalism school (or maybe they did and you got an A+.) Thank you for making your real intentions towards Norm's GOP chairmanship and your character abundantly clear to all.

  2. please email me at westmipolitics@gmail.com. The article was very fair . would love to quote you in a story giving "Norm's side" ">>>To be fair to Hughes, his supporters may argue that he was just frustrated with Weiser in the middle of a heated UM regent race and noted what he seemed to be ironic-that Weiser, who is Jewish, was headlining the Christian Coalition dinner. 3. Who's accusing Hughes of antisemitism?

  4. "Controversial Anti-Weiser Comments" You've got to be kidding. I don't see a controversy. He has questioned Wieisers motivations and methods, what is controversial about that? Maybe some disappointment with Scott and the Christian Coalition. So What! This is politically correct nonsense.

  5. This is typical nonsense prevalent in politics when a campaign starts floundering from the presence of a superior candidate.

I experienced it 2 years ago in the Schostak/Courser campaign, during the State Senate Primary race in Oakland Co, and numerous other challenges around the state. This is Dirty Tricks 101, and much ado about NOTHING.

Perhaps my good friend Jeff Sakwa, who is a proud and admirable Jew, should be queried on the subject of our friend Norm Hughes being anti-Semitic.

He too has a friendship with Norm, and neither Jeff or I would give the time of day to anyone we even suspected of harboring such repulsive thoughts- whether we had a pre-existing friendship with that person or not.

  6. I was at the Christian Coalition dinner that seemed awfully full to me.

This is the kind of poisonous crap I would expect to see from democrat operatives. Cut the crap and grow up!

  7. Again, who is the credible source? It seems innuendo and poisoning the well are employed to color a candidate. Quite often the target of these nameless, faceless unfounded allegations is the better candidate. Worse, we readers are now to decide, democratically, the guilt of one man, without knowing who the accusers are.
