After Schuette Charges Courser+Gamrat, The Lawsuit From Allard+Graham Against Cotter Is More Important Than Ever

With the revelation that Attorney General Schuette believes criminal charges are warranted against former legislators Todd Courser and Cindy Gamrat, the lawsuit filed by Keith Allard and Ben Graham against Speaker Cotter and the Michigan House must be re-examined in a far more serious light.

It is now clear that Speaker Cotter IGNORED whistle blowers who were trying to warn him about a matter so serious, the top law enforcement official in Michigan has now taken action.

This is absolutely unacceptable, and Michiganders deserve better from Lansing.

Below, check out the top blockbuster allegations against Cotter from Allard and Graham's lawsuit....

ABC News Spotlights Michigan In Trump's Battle For Delegates In Cleveland

Hagerstrom (DarKen Photography)

By Brandon Hall
(Email him at WestMiPolitics@Gmail.com)
A recent ABC News article on Donald Trump's quest for 1,237 delegates in Cleveland spotlights the battle underway here in Michigan led by Scott Hagerstrom.

According to ABC News:

"Rival campaigns and anti-Trump activists have already begun jockeying to fill low-level delegate slots in states that have already voted in order to get themselves elected to the national convention.

If they can infiltrate the delegation, they will likely be bound to vote for Trump on the first vote of the convention. But they can vote against him in making the rules and defect to another candidate if the convention is contested -- when a candidate fails to reach 1,237 delegates before the first ballot.

Emails obtained by ABC News show the Trump campaign calling on supporters in Michigan to watch for precinct-level delegates who may defect to a rival candidate during a contested convention.

“Are they a true Donald Trump supporter?” an email to supporters asks. “Many impostors that are actually aligned with the establishment will emerge from the woodwork and try to throw off the process.”

Another email to supporters and delegates details complicated parliamentary procedure strategies, even including how to topple the chair of the convention. It also instructs precinct-level delegates to record audio or video of their local conventions.

“If we are going to make credential claims, we must have proof and evidence," the email reads. "Do not be intimidated by a bully chair, you have every right to record the caucus.”

A fierce battle for delegates is already underway, stay tuned...

Gongwer: Dissecting Candice Miller’s Surprise Bid For Macomb County Office

By Zachary Gorchow
>>>Gongwer Editor,
via their Public Blog
Posted: March, 25 2016 2:58 PM

U.S. Rep. Candice Miller has an incredible knack for surprise campaign announcements.

On August 11, 1999, Ms. Miller, a Republican from Harrison Township and then the secretary of state who was widely anticipated to challenge then-U.S. Rep. David Bonior in 2000, sent out a news release declaring she had decided not to run. It was a huge blow to the Michigan Republican Party, which loathed Mr. Bonior and had intently recruited Ms. Miller to challenge him.

I can still picture the scene in the Gongwer office. John Lindstrom, then the lead reporter on the Michigan Senate, pulled the release off either the printer or fax machine, and walked into then-Gongwer Vice President Larry Lee’s office.

“Well, this is a kick in the ass,” John said to Larry, holding the release in front of Larry’s face.

Larry’s response? “Oh my.”

A similar scene played out Wednesday when a release rolled into our inboxes from Ms. Miller declaring she would run for Macomb County Public Works commissioner. That’s essentially the drain commissioner but with a snazzier title.

The immediate question was obvious. Does this increase or decrease the likelihood Ms. Miller will run for governor in 2018? Ms. Miller and her spokesperson would only say that she is focused on the public works commissioner race.

But in talking with people well-versed on campaign strategy -- and to be clear, they do not have any inside information as to Ms. Miller’s thinking -- they say there is no question this week’s events mean she will not run for governor in 2018.

The analysis is simple. If Ms. Miller planned to run for governor, upon exiting Congress in early January 2017, she would be unencumbered to immediately begin campaigning. She could travel the state and visit every Republican Party function and more from Niles to Erie to Sault Ste. Marie to Ironwood in preparation for an expected epic battle for the nomination with Attorney General Bill Schuette, Lt. Governor Brian Calley and Senate Majority Leader Arlan Meekhof, none of whom has said they are running, but all either expected to do so or seriously entertaining the idea.

Instead, if she wins the public works commissioner job, she would have to stick to Macomb County and, you know, do the job to which she was just elected. Ms. Miller assuming that office and then launching a statewide gubernatorial bid, as she would have to do relatively early in 2017 would look bad, not to mention make the task of running for governor much more difficult by having less time to spend campaigning.

If Ms. Miller indeed has decided not to run for governor in 2018, that is huge. Her entrance into the race would have made it more difficult for Mr. Calley, and to be clear he already will have the same inherent difficulty any lieutenant governor has trying to succeed their governor, let alone the issues the Flint water crisis will present, and would have created an epic match-up with Mr. Schuette for the GOP nomination.

It also would have complicated Democratic hopes of winning the race. Ms. Miller’s strength in southeast Michigan, tremendous popularity and residual name recognition from her years as secretary of state from 1995-2002 would be formidable if she won the Republican nomination.

The sense I get from Democrats is they would relish taking on Mr. Schuette. Yes, he has significant strengths, the Democrats would acknowledge. But I think Democrats feel confident about one of their top potential candidates, like U.S. Rep. Dan Kildee (D-Flint) or former Senate Minority Leader Gretchen Whitmer (D-East Lansing), matching up with Mr. Schuette for votes in vital Oakland County. Ms. Miller, however, would be very formidable in Oakland and make the Democratic path to victory much harder.

Keep in mind, of course, that trying to project the political atmosphere in 2018 is tricky, and all we can do at this point is look at how candidates match-up on paper in the context of today’s political environment. If Hillary Clinton is elected president this year, for example, it stands to reason that 2018 will be an extremely challenging year for Democrats nationally after 10 years in the White House.

And in the end, we simply don’t know what Ms. Miller intends to do.

I do know this much: If Ms. Miller wins the public works commissioner job and sometime in the late winter/early spring of 2017, an email rolls into our inboxes declaring she is running for governor, it won’t be the first time she has made our eyes widen and prompted “wows” with a campaign announcement."

2nd Congressional District Cleveland Delegate Deadline Amended After Controversy

Mike Hewitt, center, with Joe Haveman, left (Photo By DarKen Photography)

By Brandon Hall
(Email him at WestMiPolitics@Gmail.com)
The deadline for applying to be a delegate to the Republican National Convention in Cleveland isn't for 2 weeks, but those in the 2nd Congressional District must declare by Thursday, March 29th.

The original deadline was today, but outrage caused that to be amended.

What's the deal with the deadline?

Some feared the worst, given Arlan Meekhof and Bill Huizenga's involvement... Evidently, the 2nd uses ballot machines no other place uses, and the printer requires certain accommodations.

2nd District Chair Mike Hewitt originally posted:

"Attention State Caucus/Convention Delegates seeking to be elected national delegate ...

Because of the time needed for ballot printing, etc., time is of the essence. If you're a state delegate and wish to have your name placed on the ballot for national convention delegate please see the following excerpt.

The deadline to have your name printed on the ballot for 2nd District will be 5 p.m. on Friday, March 25, 2016 and the deadline to remove your name from the ballot is 3 p.m. on Monday, March 28, 2016. The email address to do this is mi2candidates@gmail.com. There will be room on the ballot for write in candidates nominated from the floor. No candidate may have his or her name on the ballot as supporting more than one presidential candidate. All candidates whether printed on the ballot or nominated from the floor must have filed a presidential preference form for one of the three allocated candidates with the Michigan Republican Party by 6:00 pm on Friday, April 8.'
**** the Rules and Procedures for our April 8th Caucus will be posted here and on our website in their entirety tomorrow afternoon."

That was later amended.

"The 2nd District Republican Caucus uses ballot machines for the express purpose of providing quick, accurate, protected and private balloting. Because of the time required to print the ballots the deadline time was short for those wishing to file to become National Delegates. Understanding such a short notice presented a problem for some we asked and received additional support from our printer.

Please note the following:
'The deadline to have your name printed on the ballot for 2nd District will be 5 p.m. on Thursday, March 31, 2016 and the deadline to remove your name from the ballot is 3 p.m. on Friday, April 1, 2016"

Make sure you know your Congressional District's rules! Email WMP if something doesn't sound right... WestMIPolitics@Gmail.com

Top MIGOP Official Using Fake Facebook Account Posing As A Veteran To Bash Trump, Promote Party Propaganda?

MIGOP Digital Director Ross Abraham

By Brandon Hall
(Email him at WestMiPolitics@Gmail.com)
A WMP investigation into suspicious Facebook activity has revealed a fake account posing as a Veteran that bashes GOP Presidential candidate Donald Trump and promotes state party propaganda is likely being run by a top Michigan Republican Party staff member.

Ross Abraham, MIGOP Digital Director, seems to be the person behind a Facebook account under the name "Daniel Chisholm," allegedly an Air Force veteran.

Here are some notable issues:

>>>He only shares MRP content for the most part... Prior to that, he shared "Mother & Midwife Pictures" content, who Ross Abraham worked for, prior to that he shared Mitt Romney content, who Ross Abraham worked for, prior to that he shared Hoekstra content, who Ross Abraham once again worked for...

>>>As is called out by one of the people who posted on his wall, his birthday and graduation year would have made him 28 when he graduated from Northville HS, where Ross Abraham went. There are multiple posts asking him who he is.

>>>There are several Daniel Chisholms in the Michigan Voter File, but none are geographically near where he says he's from, nor do the ages match up...

>>>He only has 3 profile pictures- two political, one sports related. Ross Abraham's social media clearly demonstrates that he's a huge Tigers fan. The two cover photos on Chisholm's account are from Mother & Midwife, and Mitt Romney...

>>>There is no record of a Dan Chisholm being a precinct delegate in the past 6 years, he has never been in any of Ken and Darlene's photos over the years, and yet he's constantly sharing MIGOP content...

>>>Below are some screenshots of the account:

Meekhof May Allow Senator Who Tried To Kill Ex Wife For Refusing Three Way Sexual Encounter To Stay In Senate While In Jail

Meekhof, left, Smith, right, Kowall, center

By Brandon Hall
(Email him at WestMiPolitics@Gmail.com)
Just when one thinks they've seen it all from Lansing and Arlan Meekhof, news breaks that he damn well may allow Sen. Virgil Smith to stay in the Senate and serve from jail while collecting a taxpayer salary for 10 months. Smith was arrested for trying to kill his ex-wife for refusing three way sex with the Senator and some other woman...

And Meekhof has the nerve to take cheap shots at Donald Trump?! Derp...

Anyway, check out this excerpt of an article from Emily Lawler at MLive:

"A senator involved in a shooting incident last year may be able to serve jail time without resigning or giving up his taxpayer-funded salary under a plea deal approved by a Wayne County judge earlier this month.

The Senate has the power to expel a member but has not made any move to do so in regards to Virgil Smith, a Detroit Democrat. Senate Majority Leader Arlan Meekhof, R-West Olive, met with Smith last week and said the legal process had not yet played out.

Asked about the possibility of Smith continuing to serve and continuing to collect a taxpayer-funded salary from jail, Meekhof said "that would be a concern."

Smith faced charges related to a May 2015 altercation involving him, a woman he was seeing and his ex-wife. In that incident, he allegedly shot at his ex-wife's Mercedes-Benz. He reached a plea deal with the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office to plead guilty to a felony, serve 10 months in jail and resign.

But Wayne County Circuit Court Judge Lawrence Talon threw that last portion of the agreement out, saying he didn't have the power to enforce the resignation provision. A court hearing to further discuss that aspect of the plea deal is set for March 28.

Smith has voted with Republican leadership on many routine and key votes since the May 2015 incident..."

The article continues:

"Former Sen. Bill Ballenger remembers legal situations coming up a few times while he served, but said a lawmaker serving this length of jail sentence would be unprecedented.

"There would be nothing like what Virgil Smith would be doing if in fact he really contemplates serving from jail for 10 months. That would be unbelievable," Ballenger said.

The Senate has the power to expel members with a two-thirds vote per the state constitution. "Each house shall be the sole judge of the qualifications, elections and returns of its members, and may, with the concurrence of two-thirds of all the members elected thereto and serving therein, expel a member," the constitution states.

The House of Representatives expelled member Cindy Gamrat in 2015. Attorney Mike Nichols, who is representing her in a criminal proceeding, said the contrast between Gamrat and Courser's ousters and Smith's treatment was "an interesting study in political expediency."

WOW: Casperson Busted Wining And Dining With Washington Lobbyists While Missing Extremely Important Detroit Schools Vote

By Brandon Hall
(Email him at WestMiPolitics@Gmail.com)
State Senator Tom Casperson has been called the "nation's most liberal Republican Congressional candidate" in his race against Jason Allen to replace Rep. Dan Benishek in the First District, but skipping out on votes isn't the way to improve conservative street cred.

In fact, Casperson was the only Senator who missed yesterday's important series of votes on the Detroit Public Schools...

Where was he? In Washington, wining and dining with DC lobbyists and special interests at a big National Republican Congressional Committee event. WMP has obtained exclusive photos of Casperson at the dinner.

The Michigan Freedom Fund absolutely blasted Senate Majority Leader Meekhof and Senators who showed up to support the bill Casperson didn't bother fighting. Many call it a $700 million bailout of Detroit Public Schools...

"The bill approved today by the Senate would establish a Detroit Education Commission, giving the Mayor of Detroit and his handpicked cronies the power to prevent any additional charter schools from ever locating in Detroit, limiting parental choice and trapping countless future Detroiters in a public school system that has irreparably failed generations of Detroit students," MFF said in a press release.

The release was titled "Senate Republicans to Detroit Parents: Your Kids Don’t Matter," with a subheading "Republican Senators Set New Standard for Shame with Plan to Abandon Detroit School Children, Declare Detroit a No-Choice Zone."

It continues:

"Duggan and Steve Cook, the President of the Michigan Education Association, are vocal opponents of parental choice in education and have publicly praised Senate Republican leadership for today’s legislation.

“It’s no wonder union special interests applauded Senate Republicans today. Shameful doesn’t begin to describe Senate Republicans’ willingness to strip Detroit parents of the future educational opportunities their children need,” said Terri Reid, President of the Michigan Freedom Fund. “The insanity of this package is that it focuses on preserving the status quo rather than expanding expectations and increasing accountability. Stunningly, not only have the cowards in the Republican caucus been willing to abandon their principles, now they’re trying to wipe away future generations of Detroiters’ best chance at a quality education.

“Tens of thousands of Detroit families have already fought back against a broken and failed school district and have found hope and a brighter future in charter public schools. It’s deplorable that when Detroiters need them the most, Senate Republicans refused to stand with them.”

50 charter public schools currently operate in the city of Detroit, educating an estimated 30,000 Detroit school children."

>>>Here is how the Senate voted:

Breaking: State Rep. Dianda Asks Schuette To Investigate Meekhof Senate Building

By Brandon Hall
(Email him at WestMiPolitics@Gmail.com)
State Rep. Scott Dianda has finally done what Todd Courser was never able to make happen: he sent Attorney General Schuette a request for a formal opinion on the highly controversial Meekhof Senate Building...

Dianda held a press conference on the issue today in Lansing.

According to a press release:

"State Representative Scott Dianda (D-Calumet) officially requested today that Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette investigate the Senate’s rental of lavish new offices in the Capitol View office building, which is home to registered lobbyists and is owned by a political contributor to the Republican Party.

The Senate sold the Billie S. Farnum Building that had been home to senators’ offices and that the Senate owned. “Like my constituents in the U.P., I am baffled as to why the Senate would move out of a building that’s paid for and into a building where they will now have to pay rent,” said Dianda.

"Last year, the Senate wanted a total of $134 million over the course of 30 years to pay for these fancy new offices. Unfortunately, the House failed to stop this, and there is no requirement that building purchases be approved by both chambers. These new offices are a boondoggle that will cost taxpayers money that doesn’t need to be spent. That’s why I’m calling for Attorney General Schuette to investigate.” The Capitol View project did not have an appraisal, leaving taxpayers in the dark as to the true value of the property being purchased. The Lansing city assessor said the project was overpriced to such a degree that he would not be using the sale in assessing property values in the city. The developer behind the Capitol View project is a well-connected GOP donor who has given hundreds of thousands of dollars to Republicans and Republican-aligned political organizations.

“With budget cuts and increasing costs, everyone in the state is being asked to tighten their budgets,” said Dianda. “I think my constituents, and all Michigan taxpayers, deserve to know why the state seems to be overspending without regard to the actual value of this building and these new offices. In my district, if a family needs a bigger home or a business needs more room, we look for ways to fix and improve what we already have instead of rushing out to buy new. It seems to me that it would be far more prudent for the Senate to fix up the Farnum Building, especially when we are likely facing more bills related to other pressing concerns were this money would be better spent.”

Hagerstrom: Know Your County Convention Rules To Stop Establishment Tricks Against Trump

Hagerstrom

By Brandon Hall
(Email him at WestMiPolitics@Gmail.com)
In an email Monday night, Donald Trump's Michigan State Director Scott Hagerstrom gives a list of things to watch out for at tonight's County Conventions.

Here is part of that email:

"Things to know and watch out for:

-Don't let the temporary chair vote on any rules. The only purpose of the temporary chair is to oversee the election of the permanent chair, nothing else.

-If the chair is not calling fair voice votes, immediately call for DIVISION and do a credentials vote or a secret ballot. You're always better doing a secret ballot.

-Do not permit the chair to limit debate or to stop amending a slate unless you have 2/3 of the delegates agree to “call the question” or vote on the final slate. Know exactly how many delegates are in your caucus and know what that 2/3 number is. Never allow the chair to make a voice vote judgment call on a vote that requires 2/3. Call DIVISION if this happens. ALWAYS do a standing vote or a secret ballot. Have one of our people verify the count.

-If the chair refuses to acknowledge any call for division, you can remove the chair by making a motion to “Suspend the Rules,"  and vote to replace the chair.

-After you vote on your final slate or list of delegates and before you start on the alternates, TAKE A PHOTO OF THE LIST OF DELEGATES. Do the same with the NUMERICAL list of alternates. Do not let that list out of your sight until you get a photo of it.

-Video and/or audio record your sub-caucus. If we are going to make credential claims, we must have proof and evidence. Do not be intimidated by a bully chair, you have every right to record the caucus.

Thank you for your support of Donald Trump. Together, we will MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!

Hagerstrom Warns Of Shady Establishment Tricks Against Trump At Tuesday's County Conventions

By Brandon Hall
(Email him at WestMiPolitics@Gmail.com)
The Michigan State Director for Donald Trump's campaign, Scott Hagerstrom, knows a thing or two about dealing with establishment shenanigans... So his email Sunday afternoon warning Trump supporters of possible shady activity at Tuesday night's county conventions across Michigan shouldn't be a surprise.

"Many IMPOSTERS that are actually aligned with the establishment will emerge from the woodwork and try to throw off the process," Hagerstrom said. "We want to use your knowledge to determine who these people are. Again, we want this to be a FAIR process for every candidate so that the voices of Michigan voters are heard."

>>>Here is the full email:

"Thank you for leading Donald J. Trump to victory in Michigan on March 8! However, just because we won the primary election doesn’t mean our job is finished. We need you to attend your county convention this Tuesday, March 22nd.

Media reports (Click Here) indicate that career politicians and the political class are plotting to deny Mr. Trump the nomination by preventing our supporters from representing Mr. Trump as his delegates to the Republican National Convention.

Do you want to serve as a delegate to the Republican National Convention and help us defeat these senseless efforts to destroy our movement?

There’s an old political saying, “To win the game, know the rules.” So, please pay close attention to the following instructions, as the rules are incredibly complicated.

ACTION ITEMS --
If you are ALREADY a precinct delegate…
Email cjgaldes@donaldtrump.com as soon as possible. We would like to touch base with you so that everyone is on the same page.
>>>If you want to be eligible for the National Convention, you will need to attend your County Convention and the State Convention. This link has the location and contact for all County Conventions:

http://www.migop.org/assets/files/County_Convention_Location_Tracker.pdf

County Conventions are Tuesday, March 22nd and most begin at 7pm, but please reach out to the contact person listed to confirm this.
Also, make sure you are available for the State Convention on April 8th and 9th, and the National Convention taking place July 18th-21st.

If you are NOT a precinct delegate…
You still have the right to attend your County Convention on Tuesday, March 22nd. Our greatest concern is making sure that these conventions are FAIR for EVERY CANDIDATE. This means that we need attendees of these conventions to learn and know the rules well. We will be sending out another email soon regarding convention rules.
If you KNOW a precinct delegate…
Are they a TRUE Donald Trump supporter? Many IMPOSTERS that are actually aligned with the establishment will emerge from the woodwork and try to throw off the process. We want to use your knowledge to determine who these people are. Again, we want this to be a FAIR process for every candidate so that the voices of Michigan voters are heard.

Thank your for your continued help and support! Email
cjgaldes@donaldtrump.com with any comments or questions that you have.

Together, we will
 MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!
