Donald Trump Won The Debate Against Hillary: Here’s Why

By Brandon Hall
(Email WestMIPolitics@Gmail.com)

Lester Holt didn’t ask Hillary a single hard question yet asked Mr. Trump at least 4! Despite this outrageous media bias, Trump went toe-to-toe with Hillary for a 12-round fight.

By not getting caught in a single moment that can be singled out as horrendously bad, and looking presidential throughout, Trump wins what was essentially a tie debate. The dishonest media spin afterwards carrying water for Hillary acting like she had a huge win was as sad as it was pathetic!

Donald Trump clearly demonstrated that he’s ready to be President of the United States and start fighting for the American people on day one. Great night for Mr. Trump!

Trejo: Big Brother Reigns Supreme As Meekhof's Dereliction of Duty Emboldens Orwellian Surveillance State in Michigan

By Shane G. Trejo
(Special Contribution To West Michigan Politics)

The Michigan Republican establsihment has been desperately trying to improve their public relations in lieu of a recent Hillary-esque streak of crushing scandals.

From the Todd and Cindy's sexcapades to the rape of Democracy by changing the ballot rules in the middle of the process to the immense environmental calamity in Flint, the establishment is truly giving the Democrats a run for their money.

However, a chance for redemption recently emerged. A YUUUGE no-brainer was sitting the legislature and gave Republicans the perfect opportunity to save face. A binding resolution  was proposed last year by Rep. Jim Runestad (R-White Lake) that would have put the question on the ballot in November allowing voters to approve common sense language in the state Constitution that would give explicit privacy protections for electronic data and communications.

If HJRN was approved, voters could have amended the state Constitution to read as follows:
The person, houses, papers, and possessions, and electronic data and communications of every person shall be secure from unreasonable searches and seizures. No warrant to search any place or to seize any person or things or to access electronic data or communications shall issue without describing them, nor without probable cause, supported by oath or affirmation. The provisions of this section shall not be construed to bar from evidence in any criminal proceeding any narcotic drug, firearm, bomb, explosive or any other dangerous weapon, seized by a peace officer outside the curtilage of any dwelling house in this state.

This effort was an obvious slam dunk for Republican lawmakers. HJRN breezed through its House committee hearing, and was approved in the House by an overwhelming 107-1 vote. It had tremendous bipartisan support, and was all set to make headlines and generate a great deal of good publicity for Republican efforts. All that stood in its way was the will of one man: <B>Senate Majority Leader Arlan Meekhof.

Regular readers of West Michigan Politics should be very familiar with Meekhof's despicable antics. Although it is fairly obvious that Meekhof doesn't give a damn about the rights of the people he is supposed to serve, it was hoped that Meekhof could see the big picture and understand the positive ramifications for his own political future within the GOP if he scheduled this measure for a vote in the Senate.

Of course, Meekhof's myopia and brazen disdain for the masses took precedence over all else. Meekhof ultimately lacked the courage to even put an issue to the voters. He was personally responsible for killing the bill, in spite of his obfuscatory behavior.

This article explains the shameful details behind Meekhof's latest betrayal:

"The Michigan house overwhelmingly approved HJRN in June by a 107-1 vote. But the measure ran into trouble in the Senate. The Sen. Mike Kowall moved to have the normal process suspended and place HJRN on general orders, meaning it could go straight to the Committee of the Whole (the entire Senate) for further consideration instead of going through a standing committee. But the process stalled from there.

According to activists in Michigan, Senate Majority Leader Sen. Arlan Meekhof didn’t want to bring the bill before the Committee of the Whole and essentially buried it. Activists say they launched a phone call and email blitz urging Meekhof bring the bill up to no avail. One activist said his office told her, “Meekhof has his attorneys looking at this bill to make sure that it is Constitutional – that they do not want to sign on a bill that is unconstitutional, so that is what he is doing for the people he represents.”

The constitutional questions Meekhof had remain unclear. Missouri voters approved an almost identical constitutional amendment in 2014. There were no constitutional questions raised.

The audacity of Meekhof to raise constitutional questions, as he has spent wastefully and shown nothing but disdain for the rights of his constituents at every turn, is the height of hubris and hypocrisy. But would we really expect anything less from our Republican leadership team?

Far from experiencing a comeback, the Michigan Republican establishment is in a beleaguered, dismal state after the environmental catastrophe of the century was caused directly by the negligence of Gov. Rick Snyder. Whether partisan Republicans are willing to admit it or not, Snyder's dictatorial edict to enact the emergency manager program undemocratically against the will of the voters was the root cause of this easily-preventable disaster.

Thanks to Gov. Snyder, our state's shame is now a worldwide phenomenon. Conservatives always knew what an embarrassment he was, but he was able to gloss it over with his "Tough Nerd" propaganda. He bought off the liberals with Medicaid expansion and the Detroit bailout to get their votes while pissing in the faces of the conservative grassroots. Because so many rank-and-file Republicans held their noses and accepted his nonsense, the establishment has never been weaker our more reviled.

That is what happens when good men and women sell their principles down the river and accept the sorry excuses from mealy-mouthed politicians. They watch their freedoms go up-in-smoke. HJRN or a similar measure may be revived during a future legislative session. Hopefully, by that time, whoever is in leadership will actually have the courage to allow the people to decide.

Lansing Gets TRUMPED As "The Donald" Heads To Novi, Pence To Macomb

By Brandon Hall
(Email WestMIPolitics@Gmail.com)

A sign appeared near the Capitol building in Lansing on Sunday supporting the Republican Presidential ticket of Donald Trump and Mike Pence.

What an amazing visual!

Trump will visit Michigan again on Friday when he comes to Novi...

Get Trump rally tickets HERE

Mike Pence also plans on visiting Michigan when he comes to Macomb for their Lincoln Day Dinner.

According to Jonathon Oosting of the Detroit News:

"Republican vice presidential hopeful Mike Pence is set to rally Macomb County Republicans at a mid-October fundraising dinner, party officials said this week.

Pence, the governor of Indiana and running mate of presidential candidate Donald Trump, is expected to keynote the Macomb County Republican Party Lincoln Day Dinner on Oct. 17.

Chairwoman Linda Torp announced the visit Monday night as Macomb Republicans watched Trump take on Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton during their first presidential debate.

Two other sources familiar with the plans said the local party has already begun selling tickets, although a time has not been finalized for the event, set for The Palazzo Grande banquet hall in Shelby Township

Trump’s Michigan campaign was not immediately able to confirm the Pence visit, which would come just three weeks and one day before voters decide the presidential election on Nov. 8.

Tickets to the dinner are expected to cost $60 per person or $550 for a party of 10. VIP tickets begin at $175, and the party will also offer more expensive host and sponsor packages.

Pence’s wife, Karen Pence, is expected to attend a fundraising luncheon the same day in Bloomfield Hills, said Trump state campaign co-chair Lena Epstein, who is hosting that event."

Speaker Leonard? Republicans Worry Dems Could Take Back Michigan House

Tom Leonard

By Brandon Hall
(Email WestMIPolitics@Gmail.com)

Michigan House Republicans are coalescing around State Rep. Tom Leonard to be the next Speaker of the House after Dem prospects of taking over the chamber have the GOP spooked.

Leonard was the favorite in his battle against Rob VerHeulen, but VerHeulen dropped out. Leonard was also hailed as the more Conservative option in the race...

Interestingly, many House Republicans believe supporting Doanld Trump will cost them votes, but in face, that position could cost them: more than just a few Michigan Republicans, especially the "grassroots," won't vote for House candidates who refuse to support Trump, and names are beginning to circulate. This could cause those candidates to fall short while also alienating Independent swing voters.

Poll after poll shows Trump thrashing Hillary with independent voters in Michigan, thus exacerbating the problem some legislators face...

According to MIRS:

"Members of the Leonard campaign celebrated the announcement, looking forward to taking the steps necessary to secure Republicans' majority. "Tom Leonard is the next leader of our caucus," said Leonard supporter Rep. Lee CHATFIELD (R-Levering). "Now it's time to make him the next Speaker."

"Could not be more proud of my guy and the hard work and commitment he has dedicated to preserving majority in the Michigan House," said Leonard's wife, Jenell LEONARD, in a Facebook post. "Rob and Norma VerHeulen have become dear friends and we look forward to what the future holds. Onward to Majority!"

"Representative Leonard is a close friend, and he will do a great job leading this caucus," VerHeulen said. "I appreciate his willingness to stand alongside my team, and I look forward to all of us working closely together on the biggest issues facing this state for years to come."

#MakeMichiganRedAgain: Second Trump Flash Mob Estimates Nearly 4,000

 By Brandon Hall
(Email WestMIPolitics@Gmail.com)

Organizers of Flash Mobs for Republican Presidential candidate Donald Trump tell WMP preliminary attendance numbers show nearly 4,000 people attended rallies across the state today...

"Numbers are still coming in," said Meshawn Maddock of Michigan Conservative Coalition. "Some of the Northern Michigan flashmobs got some rain but most of the others were close to double the participants. Looks like it's going to be close to 3500 Trump supporters! Way to go!"

3,000 attended the last event, making total attendance at the two Trump flashmobs nearly7,000.

That means that nearly 3 times the amount of Trump supporters have stood on the side of the road for Trump than have attended actual rallies for Hillary Clinton, a remarkable feat...

Here are some photos from today, more soon...

Where's Hillary? Hagerstrom Demands Answers From Clinton "If She Ever Decides To Show Up In Michigan Again"

By Brandon Hall
(Email WestMIPolitics@Gmail.com)

Donald Trump's Michigan State Director Scott Hagerstrom has some questions for Hillary Clinton as she continues to hide from Michiganders while sending in her cronies to try and fool Michiganders about her horrendous record.

“Hillary Clinton should not send one more surrogate into the Great Lakes State until she actually shows up herself and faces the tough questions Michiganders have for her," Hagerstrom said in a press release.

"In the meantime, we call on Chelsea Clinton and Anne Holton to answer the following questions:

Why did Hillary support NAFTA and TPP?
Why did Hillary defend NAFTA during Monday night’s debate?
Why didn’t Hillary answer Mr. Trump when he asked what President Obama did with TPP that caused her to flip flop?
Why does Hillary want to give away jobs in places like Detroit and Flint to unvetted refugees, instead of to the Americans living in those communities who need the work?

Hagerstom added that he looks forward "to Chelsea and Anne’s responses, and maybe even Hillary’s if she ever decides to show up in Michigan again.”

L. Brooks Patterson Says He Will Sue To Stop Syrian Refugee Invasion Of Oakland County

Patterson

By Brandon Hall
(Email WestMIPolitics@Gmail.com)

Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson says he will sue to stop Syrian refugees from being sent to Oakland County without the approval of local officials.

According to Charles Ramirez of the Detroit News:

"Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson on Tuesday said he intends to sue to stop the resettlement of more Syrian refugees in his county.

“I’ve brought in my legal team from the county, and we’re about to sue to get an injunction to stop them from relocating more people into this community until the rules are adhered to,” Patterson said Tuesday morning on WJR-AM (760).

Bill Mullan, a spokesman for Patterson, said later Tuesday the county executive is not ready to provide further details on his legal strategy plans.

“We’re not going to speculate when, where or against whom we will file a lawsuit because we are still performing our due diligence on this matter,” he said in an email.

WJR’s Frank Beckmann interviewed Patterson and prompted the county executive to address his concerns over whether immigrants and refugees are being vetted and given health screenings.

“Oakland County leads Michigan in refugees resettlement and Michigan leads the nation,” the county executive said. “So we are right in the middle of this fight.”
No lawsuit has been filed but Patterson says he is close, stay tuned...

Must Read: Residents Fight Back After Little Miss Flint's Meeting With Trump Results In Disgusting Bullying Campaign

By Brandon Hall
(Email WestMIPolitics@Gmail.com)

After "Little Miss Flint" met Donald Trump, the media and the far left shared a picture of the two, subsequently implying she was scared of Trump while making fun of the meeting. Her Mom has made it clear it was the circus like atmosphere that scared her, but that hasn't stopped the hideous remarks.

A.C. Dumas, an advisor to Flint Mayor Karen Weaver, also joined in on the bullying, blasting the little girl in a Facebook post.

The response was swift, with Flint residents again and again showing support for Mari Copney, the child who has captured Flint's heart during this difficult time. They praised Copney's willingness to meet with Trump, blasting Dumas and his ignorant comments.

"Advisor to the same mayor who allowed a visit from the nominee of a major political party to become a media circus? The same mayor who squandered the chance to inform the nation that we still can't drink the water for 2 1/2 years now. What a missed opportunity! All because Weaver couldn't set her partisanship aside for the greater good of the city. Little Miss Flint had to make up for the class our mayor was lacking," Joyce Vincent  said.

"Wow. How about. Because she is Little Miss Flint. And she is basically Flints spokesperson for the children and everyone in flint, and Trump came to Flint....her city?! Please back off from bashing," wrote Amy Gill.

Dumas, with Hillary Clinton
Arthur Woodson said "A.C. Dumas is a dumbass.. Talk about compromise position, how about voter fraud for two votes. How about running around from pillow to post looking for a free ride. How about A.C. Dumas you stop compromising your morals and integrity for a dollar. Sorry people I had to get that out. He needs to get down from city hall. This is the mayors advisor."

Haroletta Martin responded "But it was ok to meet Hilary and President Obama? WOW.....smdh."

Her Mother also responded... "This man has never met me or my child. People who are advising others in high offices need to learn to keep their opinions off of Facebook," Lulu Brezell wrote.

Kayamonne Sutton Sr. may have had the best response:

Boonstra Orders Major Flint Lawsuit Against Walling And Earley Back To Genesee County For Jury Trial

Mark Boonstra
Judge Boonstra

 By Brandon Hall
(Email WestMIPolitics@Gmail.com)

Court of Claims Judge Mark Boonstra says a lawsuit against former Flint Mayor Dwayne Walling, former Flint Emergency Manager Darnell Earley, and others involved in the Flint Water Crisis will proceed to a jury trial in Genesee County.

Walling and co. are appealing the ruling...

According to Gongwer:

"The city of Flint, former Flint Emergency Manager Darnell Earley, former Mayor Dayne Walling and two top former Flint water officials are appealing a Michigan Court of Claims ruling sending seven lawsuits against them for their conduct in the Flint water crisis back to the Genesee Circuit Court.

Court of Claims Judge Mark Boonstra returned the cases to the Genesee court after ruling the Court of Claims lacked jurisdiction because the case involved city officials, but mainly because the plaintiffs had requested the right to a jury trial, which the Court of Claims cannot have (See Gongwer Michigan Report, August 26, 2016).

He said an emergency manager, as a state-appointed officer, would appropriately be sued in the Court of Claims, but the right to trial by jury means the case must return to the Genesee circuit. The appeal was filed Friday."

Schuette Says Snyder Administration Is Like A "Fox Guarding The Henhouse" In Flint As McLaren Hospital Claims MDHHS Cover Up

McLaren Hospital in Flint says the Snyder administration is attempting to cover up crimes related to the Flint Water Crisis...

Attorney General Schuette said the Snyder administration going through medical records at McLaren is like a "fox guarding the henhouse" as the AG tries to keep a Genesee County Judge's controversial "secret" court order banning MDHHS employees from the the hospital in place...

>>>Snyder Furious As Genesee County Judge Issues Secret Court Order Limiting State Activity In Flint

According to Chad Livengood of the Detroit News:

"Attorneys for McLaren Hospital allege that state health department workers engaged in a “cover-up” of a deadly outbreak of Legionnaires’ disease in 2014 and 2015 in Genesee County that is linked to Flint’s water crisis.

In a court filing, the Flint hospital is asking the Michigan Court of Appeals to uphold a Genesee County judge’s order barring Michigan Department and Health and Human Services employees from being involved in investigations of new and old cases of Legionnaires’ while a criminal probe remains underway.

“Upon further investigation of materials related to the Flint water crisis, McLaren-Flint firmly believes the institution was a victim of numerous crimes and cover-ups by state employees including the MDHHS employees” investigating the bacterial outbreak, McLaren’s attorneys wrote in a legal brief filed Friday.

In the 18-month period, the Flint area had 91 Legionnaires’ cases that resulted in 12 deaths. This summer, there has been a small resurgence of Flint-area Legionnaires’ cases.
Acting at the behest of Gov. Rick Snyder, the state health department is embroiled in growing legal battle with McLaren, the Genesee County Health Department and Attorney General Bill Schuette’s team investigating the Flint water crisis...

Special prosecutor Todd Flood and Genesee County Prosecutor David Leyton warned in a court filing Friday that allowing the state health department to be involved in Flint water matters while agency employees are under criminal investigation is akin to the proverbial fox guarding the henhouse.

Flood and Leyton defended their decision to cut state health officials out of the process of investigating new cases of Legionella bacteria and lead in Flint’s water.

“Given the scope of the investigation, the Office of Special Counsel and the Genesee County Prosecutor concluded the only way to ensure an unbiased and independent investigation of any issues relating to the Flint Water Crisis was to take the ‘fox out of the henhouse,’ ” Flood and Leyton wrote in a Friday court filing."

As WMP previously reported, Mr. Schuette has a fox in his own henhouse and would do well to act soon before the investigation is even more tainted... Stay tuned for developments...

Sam Riddle BLASTS Flint Mayor Karen Weaver, Praises Trump's Visit, Says Dems "Take Black America For Granted"

 By Brandon Hall
 (Email WestMIPolitics@Gmail.com)

While the media focused on everything but the people of Flint, playing up the "Trump not welcome," "Trump interrupted" angle, controversial political consultant Sam Riddle and activist praised "The Donald's" visit to the beleaguered town, grateful Trump was putting the spotlight back on a City many people-like Hillary Clinton-have forgotten.

Riddle did not have positive things to say about Flint Mayor Karen Weaver...

According to MIRS:

"(P)olitical consultant Sam RIDDLE, whose family is from Flint, said Trump coming to Flint is "not a bad thing" because "by simply rolling in, I don't care what his motives are, he refocuses the world and national spotlight on Flint."

He argued Democrats still take Black America for granted because "we're in their political hip pocket. The Republicans, for the most part, can afford to write us off because we don't support them.

"So where is the political leverage for a city of Flint, when the mayor of the city of Flint gets ahead of the pack early to get behind Hillary?" Riddle asked. "What has she done for Flint? Not a damn thing. The people of Flint are still in pain and that pain is going to continue until America says, 'Help the people of Flint."

Disabled Vet+Black Trump Supporter Frank Brooks DESTROYS Forest Hills Superintendent Dan Behm

By Brandon Hall
(Email WestMIPolitics@Gmail.com)

After the Forest Hills Superintendent Dan Behm said that American and Trump flags symbolized "exclusion and hate," Frank Brooks, a disabled Veteran (and a black Trump supporter-yes, they exist!) blasted Behm in an email shared with WMP.

"I am personally insulted by your comments," Brooks wrote. "Your generalization of how "Black People" feel about a version of our National Flag is itself a form of racism."

>>>Here is the full message from Cl. Frank Brooks to Dan Behm:

"Subj: Black, 34 year Vet, retired Colonel

Mr Behm,

I am personally insulted by your comments. Your generalization of how "Black People" feel about a version of our National Flag is itself a form of racism. I fought for our nation. More importantly, I led graduates of High Schools across this country---under our flag. Just come out in the open and plainly say that you did not like the Trump sign. The tone of you statement seems to call this display of patriotism a racist action. So, essentially, you believe this was the work of deplorable and nonredeemable students? Generalizing, it seems we demean these young adults and then expect them to volunteer to defend this country, our Constitution (read this as 1st amendment), and our flag!?
I hope you open your heart to all Americans in the future,

Colonel Frank Brooks, USAF, Retired"

Shady As Hell: Lon Johnson Claims He Lives In This $36k "Crack House" For Tax Purposes

Lon Johnson (Freep)
 By Brandon Hall
(Email WestMIPolitics@Gmail.com)

Lon Johnson has held fundraisers worth more than the house he says he lives in.

Johnson, the Democrat running for U.S. House against Jack Bergman in Michigan's 1st Congressional District, "lives" in the house pictured below, possibly for tax purposes only...

The house is worth $36,000, less than some fundraisers Johnson held for his State House campaign in 2012, while the Chairman of the Michigan Democratic Party, and his Congressional campaign in 2016...

The building-reminiscent of a crackhouse by Lon's standards-is also allegedly worth close to the same amount as Johnson's car, as well as his wife's. Johnson, known for his fundraising acumen, is married to prominent Obama ally Stephanie Cutter.

Johnson has paid less than $1,500 in taxes on the property over the last 2 years...

Johnson has attacked Bergman for alleged residency issues-looks like Lon Johnson has some big housing issues of his own...
