How would new gas tax legislation pushed by Arlan Meekhof hurt Michigan families? The average driver apparently drives 12,000 miles a year. Some much less, some much more, but that's the average.

Averaging out highway and city driving of all the cars on the road to a generous 25 miles/gallon, one would need 480 gallons to keep their car fueled during the year. 480 times .15 equals $72 for every Michigan driver.

Some may only pay $36 more per year, some will pay over $140 or more-regardless, thanks to Arlan Meekhof, you'll be paying more if this legislation goes through...

That yearly cost is in addition to the one time charge of $13 every Michigander is paying for the new $130 million #MeekhofSenateBuilding...

Would you rather decide how that $72  is spent, or are you happy with what Meekhof and co. has decided to do with it? What would you do with your $72?

For drivers who start driving in 2017, and drove for say, 60 years, the #MeekhofGasTax will cost $4,320 over their lifetime  Someone who is currently 40 and drives another 35 years will pay $2,520 towards the #MeekhofGasTax....

Michigan families deserve better than the #MeekhofGasTax. Call your State Rep. and tell them to vote NO if this reaches the House floor. The House will reconvene July 14.

  1. That's less than Netflix a year for roads that tourists will be able to use to bring revenue to the state. $72 a year, to help fix a 30 year old problem - that's a bargain. Geeeezzz
