Developing: Did GHDPS Ask Local Man To Remove Confederate Flag From His Truck?

On the same week what is known as "the Confederate flag" came down in South Carolina, another Confederate flag was apparently ordered down by a police officer a thousand miles away. However, this time, not from a public building  or state property-but off of a private vehicle.

A Grand Haven man who actually happens to be a retired cop from a police department in the West Michigan area tells WMP he is "very concerned" after his son's best friend, who sometimes displays a Confederate flag on his truck, was told by a Grand Haven Department of Public Safety officer to remove the flag from his vehicle.

The source says the teen "immediately removed the flag and placed it behind his seat."

WMP is working to gather more information and confirm the specifics regarding what happened, including whether or not the officer said the flag violated some sort of  law regulating.the display of objects obstructing the views of other drivers, though flags of all sorts are pretty common on vehicles all across Michigan-American flags, U of M and MSU flags, among others...

At this time it does not appear that issue was raised during the incident. Stay tuned...

  1. I am unaware of ANY state law that prevents the flying of a flag that doesn't obstruct the view of the driver or any motorists around them.

That been said, I sense a very lucrative First Amendment lawsuit against Grand Haven in the coming days.

Not that I'd advise it in this particulr circumstance, but Kid Rock still has the best comeback relating to all of this nonsense regarding that flag.
