They don't call it the "fightin' 1st" for nothin'!
Politics always seems to be full of drama in Northern Michigan.
That trend continued this week after Randy Bishop, a conservative radio host who is also the Chair of the Antrim County Republican Party near the Traverse City area, endorsed a Democrat for State Senate.
1st District Republican Party Chair Jesse Osmer didn't like that, so he rolled up his sleeves, loosened his trademark boe-tie, and got to work rallying Republicans against Bishop, calling for his resignation.
Bishop's supporters in Antrim responded that they were sticking by the controversial firebrand known in Republican circles as "Trucker," mostly because he has helped grow the party, big league. That seems to be how most Republicans there feel.
The First Congressional District Executive Committee responded by censuring Bishop, and Osmer has offered anyone in Antrim who wants to push for Bishop's removal assistance.
According to a statement:
"Earlier this evening, Randy Bishop was formally censured by the District Committee for his endorsement of Planned Parenthood’s candidate for the 38th State Senate Seat. The Democrat that Mr. Bishop has featured on his radio program is supporting Gretchen Whitmer for Governor and previously served on the Hillary for America, Michigan Leadership Council.
We urge Mr. Bishop to resign as chairman of the Antrim County GOP. #ResignRandy"
Only the Antrim County Republican Party's Executive Committee can give Bishop the boot, and the votes aren't there for that.
Stay tuned for more on this, as well as the Democrat that Trucker endorsed, Scott Dianda.
