I had a great time talking with Neal from WOOD Radio's "West Michigan Live" this morning. We hit on the #MeekhofGasTax and a number of issues from callers, check it out below!
"A rainy July morning is the setting for the Tuesday installment of West Michigan Live. Neal
opens the show with a promise kept; he invites John Proos, a Michigan
State Senator in SW Michigan to talk about the proposed 15 cent gas tax
increase. This topic links back to proposal 1 and Michigan resident’s animosity towards that proposal. Neal
brings up the debate over the failed proposal 1, that it wasn’t clear
about wanting to fix just the roads and wonders if this proposal is
straight forward enough. Being
that Proos represents a part of Michigan that needs a competitive
advantage over our neighbors in Indiana to keep people and business’s in
Michigan happy he has many opinions on this legislation. After
the first break, Neal and the Senator discuss the science behind weight
loads for semi drivers and people who use the roads as their
livelihood. Finally Neal opens the phone lines to our listeners who have a variety of questions for the senator regarding this hot topic.
To carry the show on, Brandon Hall, Managing editor
of West Michigan Politics calls in to talk about the how much the tax
increase will affect the average Michigan Consumer. Brandon Hall’s point of view on this proposal is that the average families and people in this state deserve better than this. According to his calculations if this proposal is passed, it will end up costing every resident at voting age 72 dollars a year. Brandon
offers this proposal discussion a journalistic point of view rather
than a political point of view and foresees the effects this proposal
could have on the general public. Again our audience is fired up with their opinions and calls in to weigh in on the topic."
