The former Chief Justice of the Michigan State Supreme Court is making moves towards mounting a US Senate Campaign against Sen. Debbie Stabenow.
The only current candidate in the race so far is businesswoman Lena Epstein, a Trump Co-Chair in Michigan who runs an oil company in the Detroit area.
Bob Young is looking increasingly more like a candidate, though.
According to Randy Bishop, known as "Trucker Randy" in Republican circles, Young called him recently asking about the prospects of a Young For Senate campaign.
According to a Facebook statement from Bishop:
"I got a phone call today while I was on another call. The area code was 313 (Detroit) and it went to my voicemail,...which I played back and heard an old friend;
"Hey Trucker,...it's Bob Young and I'm thinking about running against Debbie Stabenow in 2018,...and I would like your advice and counsel,...please call me back when you can,...Thank You".
I called him back,...and my first question was; "Why the heck do you want to go to Washington???" His answer; "To get rid of Do-Nothing Debbie and make the U.S. Senate get some things done for Michigan"!!!
My response,..."Oh heck YES"!!!"
Young is popular in many conservative circles, though it's unclear how his academic style would translate on the campaign trail.
Decades on the Michigan Supreme Court also mean he has thousands of rulings ripe for extreme spin by Dem political operatives.
Either way, it would be an interesting campaign, stay tuned!
