Yob Calls Police, Wife Arrested

MLive reports that Erica Yob, wife of prominent consultant John Yob, was arrested in late January and will appear in court later this month. She is charged with domestic violence after police were called to the home by John Yob.

"Erica Lorraine Yob, 36, is accused of domestic violence against her husband stemming from an incident on Jan. 27 at their home in the high-end neighborhood between the Watermark Country Club and Lake Walden in Cascade Township.

Sheriff's Lt. Bruce Ivie said the 911 call came from John Yob at 5:30 a.m. and that John Yob did not report any injuries in the alleged incident. He declined to release any additional details.

Erica Yob was arrested by sheriff's deputies and taken to the Kent County Jail where she posted a $5,000 bond and was released from jail on Jan. 29, according to records at the Kent County District Court.

John Yob, when reached on Wednesday, said he did not think the allegations should be reported.
"I find it disgusting that this publication would consider her challenges in her private life to be news," John Yob said in a statement.

John Yob, 38, is the CEO of Strategic National Consulting in Grand Rapids. In July, likely 2016 GOP presidential contender Rand Paul hired him to serve as national political director and chief Michigan strategist for his RANDPAC political action committee.

He announced last week the launch of the "Citizens Against Middle Class Tax Increases," a group he is leading dedicated to fighting the sales tax increase proposal to fix roads.

Yob's political career has also included working for Republican presidential candidates John McCain and Rick Santorum in 2008 and 2012, Gov. Rick Snyder, Lt. Gov. Brian Calley, Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette and failed U.S. Senate candidate Terri Lynn Land.

Erica Yob is due back in court on Feb. 24 for a pretrial conference. She faces a maximum of 93 days in jail if convicted of the misdemeanor.

Unfortunately, what should be a private matter for the Yobs will play out quite publicly in the coming weeks and months.  MLive's report is out and can't be undone.

Yob is leading a campaign against the May 5th roads package, runs Rand Paul's RandPAC, and has his hands in numerous political campaigns across the nation. This situation will undoubtedly be used as a cheap tool to attack his clients and advance anti Yob rhetoric. I am curious as to who tipped off Deiters/MLive about this story if it wasn't naturally discovered through regular channels...

Yes, it is public record and Mr. Yob did choose to call 911 knowing that would likely cause the situation to be brought to the public light. True.

Rather though, than judge or hate on the Yobs, let us take this moment to remember we are all human, we have all done some dumb things, and we all make mistakes. We can all make improvements in our own lives and should focus on making that a priority.

Erica Yob made her bed and she'll have to sleep in it. So will John Yob.

Hopefully though, every single damn one of the hatemongers and giddy online commenters that soon emerge and use this situation to throw stones at John Yob-hopefully they remember that they too live in glass houses.
