A hit Super Bowl ad has provided a big league boost to an Ann Arbor millionaire who has never held public office before, and is running an unconventional campaign.
Sound familiar?
Shri Thanedar hopes it does. He's hoping to follow pretty much the same path Gov. Rick Snyder did.
That's where the similarities to Snyder end for the most part, but that's for another day.
Thanedar has capitalized off momentum from the ad, as well as an extensive digital campaign, to bolt from a name no one has ever heard of to being right on the heels of former State Senate Minority Leader Gretchen Whitmer in the Democrat's Governor's race.
The $6 million of his own money he has poured into the campaign doesn't hurt, either.
The latest EPIC-MRA poll, originally a private poll for Thanedar, shows the Ann Arbor businessman receiving the support of 24% of voters to Whitmer's 34%. Abdul El Sayed has 8%.
Whitmer's in trouble and she knows it. She just trotted out Duggan, but he alone can't save her in the Detroit/Metro area.
Stay tuned!
