Maddock "Sets The Record Straight," Responds To Controversial Attacks

Matt and Meshawn Maddock

By Brandon Hall(Email Him At WestMiPolitics@Gmail.com)

After an article from Ron Dwyer of "Setting The Record Straight" quoting MIRS regarding controversial allegations against Oakland County conservative leader Matt Maddock was published, all hell broke loose, at least on the world wide web.

Hundreds of heated comments erupted across a series of Facebook posts as Maddock supporters clashed with his detractors, but even many of those usally opposed to Maddock came to his defense.

So what's all the fuss about?

After a contentious Oakland 11th convention a couple of weeks ago spurred a mass walkout of delegates upset with Maddock-and then a challenge of convention results-the Michigan Republican Party's Rules Committee issued an opinion last weekend, rewarding the delegates who walked out, purging the state delegates and alternates elected that night from the official list. The ruling, cooked up by MIGOP attorney Eric Doster (fire him, soon-to-be MIGOP Chairman Weiser!) is another story for another day.

The fight in Oakland continued to rage, people on both sides are PISSED. Allegations against Maddock started to surface, being pushed by political consultant David Forsmark. They made their way to MIRS, who was subsequently quoted by Dwyer in his blog.

"Documents obtained by MIRS showed Maddock gave $1,000 to former Democratic Gov. Jennifer GRANHOLM in 2002 and $250 to then-former Democratic Sen. Hansen CLARKE. Maddock said he was the head of a bail-bondsman organization at the time, and was urged to make the contribution to grease the wheels for some legislation he was working.

Also, police records from 2000 show Maddock punched a man in the face, breaking bones around his nasal cavity that later required surgery to fix. Maddock was never criminally charged in the assault, which he said came as part of him defending a member of his family who was being attacked.

Maddock also had a combined $12,000 in property tax liens from 2009-2013, which came from him losing his job, he said. "

Meshawn Maddock tells WMP she's proud of her husband.

"15 years ago as President of the Michigan Professional Bail Agents Association, under the direction of our lobbyists, Matt donated once to two Democrats and Republicans to get a bill vital to our livelihood passed. We have donated many thousands to Republicans," Maddock said.
"Matt has never arrested or charged, Meshawn Maddock continued. "He bashed some guys face in because he was defending a child. I'm proud of what he did."

And the housing liens?

"We have paid all taxes in full. At one point in our life, after Matt lost a job, for months we were selling things on eBay to make our house payments. Took us years to recover."

Oakland County's Civil War shows no signs of dying down soon... Stay tuned!

  2. Ron Dwyer is a politic HACK, no different than the "Credential Committee" in this way. Neither has any credibility. The "Credentials Committee" ignored small details like the facts in messing with the 9th and 11th results. Why not just stop the con job and have the "Credentials Committee" just pick who they wan to attend "their" party in Lansing. Sickening.

Sakwa, RRM and Doster are all pathetic.

And can't wait for Weiser's calls for unity to begin. What a JOKE.

  3. Reading through the comments on Facebook, I only see Maddock groupies coming to his defense. Looks like there maybe a little propagandabeing pushed in this story. Brandon did you work with the Maddocks and Haggerstrom on the Trump campaign?

    1. Others see establishment hacks running around to defend the undefendable decision by the MIGOP.

  4. Rules are rules. But in this case Maddock and his minions did not like the rules...so they ignored them. What the credentials committee did was correct: His slate had to be thrown out.

    1. Two points: Common sense (and common law) says you do not "punish" the "Indians" for the sins of the "chief". why dump the elected lowly PDs because "the chief" allegedly made a "mistake"? You wouldn't. Second, all the actually voting was actually done by sub-caucus exactly as the MRP rules require. Talking about doing something else not a violation. Why the "Committee" ignored acts and went on "words" just shows again that they needed to twist logic to come up with the "right decision".
